The Saco River is fishing well throughout, anglers are catching good numbers of fish downriver using soft plastics, like the the Dartspins, Hogy Protails, and Ron-Z’s.

It sure seemed like summer out there today in the Gulf of Maine - sunny, flat calm, whales breaching, and nearly 70 degrees.

Shad have also arrived in the river. The fishing has been difficult as of late

For the ice out phase, fish slow using silver buddys, jerkbaits, jigs and ned rigs near the bottom. Once the fish are shallower, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits and squarebill crankbaits will all produce. Once you find fish this time of year there will often be a school so don’t be afraid to stay in that area all day.

Offshore: One of the best groundfish years I can remember.  All of the inshore ledges still hold enough haddock to bend rods.

Can’t beat summer in Maine. Get out there and fish!

Right now is a great time to get out and hit the water for some great inshore striper action.

The pogys have arrived in the Saco Bay and river and are here in large numbers
